Min. Elmer Porter Hardy,
Jr.
Min. Elmer Porter Hardy, Jr., is the
newly elected Pastor of the historic First Baptist Church of Port
Jefferson, NY.
Born in the St. Nicholas Housing
Projects in Harlem, N.Y. and raised in a single parent household in
the South Bronx, Elmer attended the New York City Public School
System from elementary through high school. He received his Bachelor
of Fine Arts in Communication Arts from the New York Institute of
Technology, his Master of Divinity from the New Brunswick
Theological Seminary, and completed one year of his Doctor of
Ministry from the Morehouse School of Religion at the
Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Elmer has worked as: Public
Relations Director of Operation Y.E.S. (Youth Empowered to Succeed)
at Harvest Ministries in Brooklyn; Production Assistant in New York
Media at WNET Channel 13, WLTW Lite-FM Radio, and WOR-AM Radio; and
as Community Relations Manager for Odyssey-a national interfaith
cable-tv network which is currently the Hallmark Channel.
Elmer serviced for two years as
interim Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Costa Rica, Central
America and for seven years as an Associate Minister at the historic
Walker Memorial Baptist Church in the Bronx, NY where the Rev. Dr.
Joe Albert Bush, Sr., is the Pastor.
Elmer was licensed to preach the
Gospel of Jesus Christ in December, 1992 and he preaches regularly
throughout the Tri-State area. His motto is, “With God all things
are possible, but without God nothing is worthwhile.”
